Judge Jake Gold once joked to Sokyrka, telling her “you’ve got a future so bright, I’ve got to wear shades”, and the artist has proved that statement true throughout her progression from Idol Contestant runner up to solo artist. In 2005, the year following Sokyrka’s smash hit performance on Canadian Idol, the singer released her first album titled ‘These Old Charms’ which achieved a gold status after selling 70,000 copies, as well as a nomination for Juno Awards’ “Best Pop Album of the Year”. The following year, the singer released a pop album produced by MapleMusic, from which two singles debuted in MuchMusic’s top ten. In the following years, Sokyrka produced two more albums, and in 2013 released her latest album ‘Prairie Winds’ which was solely produced and written by herself. This album was free from editing - a beautiful, pure representation of her soul music with which she toured with throughout 2013. This year, Theresa has been performing a small number of gigs at local venues where she currently lives in Saskatoon. Sokyrka has just recently announced on social media that she will be performing as a part of Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, alongside a variety of international jazz artists. Sokyrka also voices her political opinion using social media platform Twitter, expressing particular opinions regarding Canadian gun laws, president Trump & his political movements, Justin Tredeau’s recent electoral reform, Aleppo action and Canadian House of Commons MP Brad Trost.
