In 2004, Canadian Theresa Sokyrka performed on the second season of Canadian Idol, coming a close second after 13 weeks of grueling elimination rounds. Performing to an audience of over three million viewers each week, Sokyrka used her powerfully feminine voice to perform 18 tracks, putting her spin on most of them. Most famously these included: · "You've Got a Friend" James Taylor · "Unforgettable" Nat King Cole · "Piece of My Heart" Janis Joplin · "Hello" Lionel Richie · "Dream a Little Dream" Louis Armstrong · "What The World Needs Now Is Love" Jackie DeShannon · "Come Away With Me" Norah Jones The music student from Saskatchewan’s friendly personality, grace, and – of course – enormous talent instantly made her a favourite amongst both viewers and judges. Throughout the season, Sokyrka continued to blow Canada away, particularly with her renditions of Eva Cassidy’s Summertime, Jann Arden’s Good Mother, and Smokey Robinson’s Cruisin’. She was also a standout contestant due to scatting during her songs, a jazz technique in which singers use their voice as an instrument, producing wordless rhythms and harmonies. Sokyrka made it to the final two, competing against Kalan Porter. Performing the Idol Single, Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me, and again Smokey Robinson’s Cruisin’, Sokyrka once more proved her beautiful talent. However, Sokyrka lost to Canadian winner Kalan Porter, who later went on to release an album with Sokyrka featuring on a track. Post by: Chris at http://www.housecleaninglogan.com.au
